Beethoven Mass in C | Flatischler/Bertl Space Beyond Space

Every classical music fan knows Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis, but few are aware of the treasure of the Mass in C, which he composed 17 years earlier, in 1807. His genius pushed boundaries, and later generations have come to value it as Beethoven through and through. Reinhard Flatischler, composer, master drummer and music therapist extraordinaire, will have you spellbound with this exciting new work, Space Beyond Space. Through musical innovation and rhythmic ‘colouring’, Flatischler and thrilling internationally-acclaimed percussionist Túpac Mantilla aim to draw the audience into a multi-layered experience of the space around and beyond them.

Who we are: Get to know some of our choir members

  • Richard J. Milne

Picture of Richard J. MilneRichard has been a singing member of Auckland Choral for over 14 years, as a member of the Bass section, and is currently Deputy Chairperson and a member of the Finance and Management Subcommittee. He strongly supports the vision of the current Music Director, to develop Auckland Choral as a major symphonic choir, working with international and local artists and professional orchestras.

As a healthcare scientist, Richard believes that music, laughter and friendship are the best medicines; and he finds that Auckland Choral provides all of these. Richard has an adult son and daughter and two grandchildren who love music.

  • Lisa Er

Picture of Lisa ErLisa has been in the choir since 1974 with the exception of a couple of years when she was busy with small children.
Born in the UK Lisa emigrated with her parents to New Zealand at the age of 16. Already politically active Lisa has continued to have a passionate interest in peace, politics, ethics and philosophy, as well as a deep love of music.
A primary school teacher for 14 years, Lisa then created the business Lisa's Hummus, which she sold a few years ago. Now Lisa is immersed in creating political solutions via The Awareness Party, and  will continue singing in the choir as long as she is able!

  • Becky O'Gram

Picture of Becky O'GramMy earliest memories of singing were car songs, where my sisters and I were squashed in the back of the car while my mother lead the chorus from the front. I started singing in small groups and choirs at age 12 for church events and friends' weddings. I've been a member of some form of choir ever since and now count myself very lucky to be a member of Auckland Choral. I joined in January 2017, with my first concert being the huge St John Passion by Bach. We performed it at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, in German! Singing out that first loud "Herr" gave me goose bumps and was an unforgettable experience. In December that year I got to perform in the Messiah for the first time and hope to do the same every Christmas for a long time to come.
