You can’t get a choral concert more varied than this one. Think of it as a journey of the spirit: Bruckner’s fervent little gem Os Justi Meditabitur prepares the way for the world premiere of a brand-new and deeply felt memorial in music—Erebus—by Auckland’s very own David Hamilton.
Utterly different is the riotous, mid-1930s work Carmina Burana—a no-holds-barred lampoon of the medieval clergy, set to fabulous music by Carl Orff, here in version for pianos and percussion. The wild frenzy of the opening number has chalked up dozens of media appearances from after-shave adverts to film soundtracks. Essentially, this is a whirlwind of some two dozen songs that are highly impressive as music, sometimes gentle, sometimes rowdy, but always funny and hugely approachable.

Hi, I’m Nicola – Alto 2. I joined the choir 6 years ago and absolutely love it! For me, it is the perfect blend of people, community, fabulous music, the opportunity to perform, feeling uplifted every single rehearsal and a good dose of challenge (it’s tough getting all the pronunciations right, and actually learning the music!)
Colleen Elliott joined Auckland Choral in 1999. She comes from a musical background starting with piano at aged 7 which also included being a foundation member of the Whangarei Childrens Choir formed by her Mother in the mid 1950’s. Colleen passed LTCL performers in piano but never completed it as the desire to sing became more the focus and formal vocal training commenced.
